What happens when I contact you?
If you feel counselling may be helpful for you, do contact me so that I can answer any questions you might have and if you want to continue, we can arrange an initial meeting. The initial session is a mutual assessment and you do not commit yourself to further sessions by making this appointment.
What happens at the first session?
At the first appointment you will have the opportunity to discuss your difficulties. We will talk about what you want to achieve from counselling and whether it will benefit you. It gives you the opportunity to experience my counselling approach and for us to decide if we want to work together. It's important that we feel comfortable with each other.
The number of sessions will be discussed, some issues can be resolved in short term counselling (up to 12 sessions), whilst others may require longer term work.
Each counselling session lasts for an hour.
Will everything I say be confidential?
Usually everything we discuss is kept in strict confidence; however, there may be exceptions to this, for example if I thought that someone was at risk of serious harm. Confidentiality will be discussed at the beginning of our first session, and I will explain more fully when you contact me if you require further information.
Are you professionally regulated?
I am an accredited and registered member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and on the BACP Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I am bound by their Ethical Framework.
Are you supervised?
In accordance with best clinical practice, I discuss my work with a counselling supervisor, in such a way as not to identify clients. The supervisor is bound by the same code of confidentiality and ethical framework.
Are you insured?
I have full professional indemnity insurance.
